Noosa Arts Theatre presents Cosi, written by Louis Nowra and directed by Jane Rivers. A vibrant play set in 1971, it tells the story of young graduates putting on a show with patients at a mental institution.

Lewis, a young Sydney amateur theatre director, is offered a job with a government program for the rehabilitation of mentally ill patients. His project is overrun by one of the patients, Roy, who wants to stage Cosi FanTutte (Mozart), although none of the patients in the cast can sing nor speak Italian (the language of the libretto).

As Vietnam War protests rage outside and Lewis confronts the enormity of his task, he begins to realise the frightening and attractive power of madness, politics, theatre and love. As his life is touched by these extraordinary people, we learn, along with Lewis, that when chasing your dreams it helps to be a little crazy.

Come along and witness this unlikely cohort, including an obsessive-compulsive, a manic depressive and a junkie, pull off the opera of the decade! Or will a patient with a penchant for pyromania spoil all the fun?
