NOOSA alive! is 10 days and nights of supreme culture and entertainment with performances in dance, music, literature, food, theatre, a Festival of Thought, visual arts, film, cabaret and free events in Noosa, the Relaxation Capital of Australia.

See 3 world premiere performances, 6 Australian premiere/preview performances and 5 Queensland premiere performances in up-close and intimate settings around the Noosa region.

THE J THEATRE SERIES
The J Theatre in Noosa Heads presents performers in an intimate setting.

Young music theatre sensation Blake Bowden presents a world premiere event of Straight from the Heart, coinciding with the release of his album, for two performances only at The J Theatre on 28 July.

Theatre legend Maggie Dence stars in a Queensland premiere performance of Marjorie Prime.

See Ida Girls, the most glamorous and talented young opera sensations currently travelling the world in their exclusive Australian performance.

Also 2 Australian premiere performances of OLE! (pictured), direct from sold-out performances in 37 countries entertaining audiences with a modern mix of flamenco, pop, swing, blues, rock and jazz as they combine music, comedy, and audience interaction.

Back to thrill is the Queensland Ballet, presenting the world premiere of a new contemporary work choreographed by Rani Luther, and excerpts from their classical ballet repertoire, including divertissements from Don Quixote. Performed by Queensland Ballet’s Jette Parker Young Artists and Company Artists, each program will conclude with a Q&A session.

In music, Australia’s multi-ARIA award-winning Idea of North present Groove Sessions, and four-time ARIA award-winning singer and songwriter Katie Noonan performs with her trio Elixir, with string quartet and Australia’s ‘poet laureate’ Michael Leunig (pictured below).


Dangerous Song is an exquisite journey through music and film into a world where the voices of endangered animals speak directly to the heart in a way that words never can.

Barrie Cassidy and Insiders will be followed by an optional forum lunch to continue discussion and debate at RACV Noosa Resort. Joining Barrie will be Lenore Taylor, Editor of The Guardian Australia; Phil Coorey from The Australian Financial Review; Katharine Murphy from The Guardian Australia and The Age; and Dennis Atkins from The Courier Mail.

NOOSA ARTS THEATRE SERIES
The Noosa Arts Theatre in Noosaville presents:

In cabaret, Helpmann Award winner Michael Griffiths joins the legendary Carlotta Queen of the Cross, for one show only at the Noosa Arts Theatre.

Michael Griffiths and cabaret darling Amelia Ryan are in Livvy & Pete which tells the story through popular song and dance of two of Australia’s greats, Olivia Newton John and Peter Allen, their wonderful friendship and professional associations.

NOOSA alive! in association with Mad About Theatre (A Chorus Line, Chicago) presents an Australian preview season of Disenchanted, the hilarious hit musical.

The National One Act Playwriting Competition will see the stage premiere of the three finalists’ plays from nearly 70 entries from across Australia, New Zealand, USA and PNG.

FOOD & CULTURE
Australian actor Stephen Curry appears in an evening of food, music and wine at Noosa’s ‘hatted’ restaurant, Noosa Waterfront, with a superb menu directed by owner and chef, Andrea Ravanezzi.

Noosa Waterfront
is also the venue for food shows with Carlotta, Queen of the Cross and acclaimed singer/songwriter Mike McClellan on respective dates.

Other food events include: NOOSA alive! Asian infusion Embassy XO @ Sunshine Beach; the famous Duck Waddle on Hastings, a progressive dinner at Noosa Beach House, Rococo and Sails; and Snapped, 50 years through the lens of press photographer Bruce Postle at a lunch and presentation at Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort.

The slow food and film event showcases Paris Can’t Wait, with an inspired 3-course menu by chefs Aden Moriarty from Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, Glen Barratt from Wild Canary and Matt Golinski.

FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE & FORUM

Dorothy Johnston,
twice shortlisted novelist for the prestigious Miles Franklin award will talk about her latest novel, The Swan Island Connection. Also hear from Diana Thompson about her novel Unbridled Passion and Sara Dowse about her book As the Lonely Fly.

Thought forums include Whither Australia’s Energy Future, featuring some of Australia’s leading commentators on the truth of Australia’s energy future; Paul Barclay in conversation with Peter Greste, a foreign correspondent who has reported from some of the world’s most dangerous and troubled places and who was incarcerated on terrorism charges in Egypt in 2013.

Noosa Orchestra
presents musical favourites, conducted by Antoni Bonetti and featuring celebrated Australian pianist Simon Teseschi performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

The fun continues with A Vaudeville Affair at the Pomona Majestic Theatre, a celebration of love and creative inspiration.

ARTS IN SITU

 

Ineteract, curated by Sunshine Coast Artist Nina Shadforth is a series of live, pop-up art happenings around Noosa.

Hot 91.1's Fire in the Sky is a great evening of family fun, finishing with fireworks.
